EDM 103 - Exercise Equipment

When we participate in art—any kind of art and any level of participation—we learn about ourselves. You might think you're studying Chopin or cooking or composition, but you will always learn more about you than anything else. What art always teaches me is that I am obsessive. This is not necessarily new information (to anyone), but it is certainly reconfirmed every time I set out with a firm determination to draw something simply, only to emerge a couple hours later with an over-complicated piece that I just couldn't let go of. It's just a treadmill. It exercises you without taking you anywhere. Exactly!
